Solo show by adoptee Carmen Curran of songs poems and stories exploring adoption and an open mic for other adoptee voices
Finding FAULT with Carmen Curran, Thurs 23rd July 3pm @gulliversnq
Adoption is a universal issue. With a formal apology recently promised by the UK government for historic forced adoptions, Finding FAULT with Carmen Curran is one adoptee's take on the lifelong impacts of separation from her birth mother.
Many adoptees are condemned to decades of silence by feelings of guilt for mourning their loss, because it contradicts the 'happy ending' narrative promoted by the adoption industry. With songs, poems and stories Carmen throws light upon the process of emerging from the condition known as 'adoptee fog' and establishing an identity despite having her own stolen at birth. As per the lyric from her song Bar Sinister - 'Babies grow and find their voices'.
Exploring themes of race, class, ethics and morals against a backdrop of shocking and painful discoveries, the show makes space for other adoptee voices with an open mic section at the end of the performance. If you believe in the healing power of creativity, bring your songs and poems to share. To participate in the open mic segment, please reach out to [email protected]
Adoptive families, birth families and anyone interested in these issues are also invited to come and enjoy the show.
