Essential Scorpion Sting First Response Course

The Essential Scorpion Sting First Response Course offers a science-based first response framework to address scorpion sting burden in Southern Africa by equipping individuals to assume a leadership role in their community.

The 3 hour course consists of a presentation, interactive workshop, supporting resources, an assessment and certificate. Topics include: introduction to scorpion sting first response; our relationship with scorpions; venom and the venomosity rule of thumb; dangerous scorpions; scorpion sting symptoms; factors influencing symptom severity; scorpion stings in animals; essential first response actions; and where to ask for help.

Participants will complete a multiple choice assessment (pass mark 60%) and receive a certificate based on their results. The course is developed and presented by Jonathan Leeming, Southern Africa’s leading authority on spider bite and scorpion sting first response, bestselling author, international speaker and conservationist.

Practical information: meet at the Ecological Centre 15 minutes before the event. The event goes ahead regardless of weather.
