Oxford Theatre Guild stage a modern 1930s-set production of Shakespeare’s All’s Well That Ends Well with a Django Reinhardt soundtrack
Oxford Theatre Guild return to the idyllic University Parks with their modern take on Shakespeare’s celebrated play All’s Well That Ends Well.
Set against the backdrop of 1930s bohemian France, and with a soundtrack by Django Rheinhardt, this production features a contemporary interpretation of Shakespeare’s story, focusing on a woman’s determined pursuit of love against seemingly insurmountable odds.
The play centres on Helen, who is deeply in love with Bertram. Despite her affections, Bertram rejects her and chooses to flee to war, accompanied by his unscrupulous companion, Parolles. Undeterred by Bertram’s disregard and his departure, Helen resolutely follows them, determined not to abandon her hope of marrying the man she loves.
Renowned for its exploration of love, trust, and morality, All’s Well That Ends Well offers timeless guidance on how to navigate the complexities of relationships and personal conduct.
