Cantrip
Electrifying live set of Scottish and European folk traditions from Edinburgh’s Cantrip.
The Scottish band Cantrip takes its name from an Old Scots word meaning a charm, magic spell, or piece of mischief—a fitting description of the group's dynamic, unpredictable sound. Blending swirling border pipes, fiery fiddle, thunderous guitar, and rich vocal harmonies, Cantrip delivers an electrifying live performance.
Formed in Edinburgh nearly 20 years ago, the band's acclaimed albums—including The Crossing— showcase a distinctive mix of tradition, innovation, and powerful musicianship. Today, Cantrip features Dan Houghton, Jon Bews, Eric McDonald, and Alasdair White (Battlefield Band).
"Cantrip pulls together Breton, Scandic, a touch of the Balkans, and several strands of Scottish music to produce a rich and savoury feast from what is basically four lads having fun." —Irish Music Magazine
