Touched by Time
Survey exhibition of contemporary Hungarian painting, sculpture, design and a digital visualization of Imre Makovecz’s unrealised church
The Hungarian Academy of Arts presents an exhibition of contemporary Hungarian fine and applied arts, curated by Tamás Felsmann, Ernő Sára and László Szotyory, at the kind invitation of Mr Przemysław Witek, Director of the Palace of Arts, Kraków.
Touched by Time brings together paintings, sculptures, graphic works, goldsmithing, ceramics and glass art, textiles, vehicle designs, furniture and architectural visions in dialogue within the Palace of Arts, Kraków. The artworks evoke memories of past centuries and recall historical connections between Poland and Hungary, shared saints, rulers and the bonds linking the two nations.
A key element of the exhibition is a digital visualisation of Imre Makovecz's unrealised design for the Church of the Resurrection. The presentation of Makovecz's plans and drawings is highlighted due to his role as founding and honorary president of the Hungarian Academy of Arts and his international prominence in organic architecture.
Academicians, established masters and mid‑career artists present works alongside invited participants and young scholarship holders. During selection the curators observed how the passage of time influences visual interpretation across generations and disciplines. The exhibition is animated by ideas and virtuoso graphic solutions drawn from internationally acclaimed animated films.
Our aim is to offer insight into current aspirations of Hungarian art, emphasizing quality and dialogue between generations, nations and artistic disciplines. Rather than presenting the Academy's separate sections, the show offers a contemporary Hungarian vision for the Kraków public. We warmly welcome visitors and hope they will be enriched by meaningful experiences and impressions.
On behalf of the curators, Ernő Sára graphic artist and lead curator
