About Randy

Born Randy Ariel Ortiz Acevedo on July 16, 1983, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Randy grew up singing in a church choir and fell in love with rhythm and blues, soul, and blues music before discovering reggaeton. He began his music career in 1998, and in 2000 he connected with Joel "Jowell" Muñoz through a mutual friend, eventually joining him in the studio to form one of reggaeton's most beloved duos. Jowell & Randy became fixtures of the underground reggaeton scene, performing and building a loyal following before catching the attention of producer Elias de Leon of White Lion Records.
