Compost Hub Support: Carver Middle School

At our Compost Hubs, food scraps collected from the community are transformed into nutrient-rich compost, and we need your help to make it happen! As a Compost Hub Support Volunteer, you’ll gain hands-on experience working alongside our knowledgeable Compost Managers. Get ready to leave feeling accomplished, a little sweaty, and brimming with new compost knowledge.

ABOUT ACTIVITY: Roll up your sleeves and dive into a variety of engaging activities, whether it’s managing a three-bin system, tending to a compost pile, sifting finished compost, or exploring a mix of everything. There’s something for everyone, from beginners to seasoned pros. Our Compost Hubs are situated in LA County’s green spaces: community gardens, urban farms, and parks. Join passionate community composters, learn to turn food scraps into rich compost, and connect with the local food system.

SUMMER VOLUNTEER ACCOMMODATIONS: • Fresh water access provided; bring a reusable bottle if you like • Regular hourly breaks encouraged to prevent heat exhaustion • Activities prioritized in the shade when possible

We automatically cancel volunteer events if the temperature exceeds 105°F.

MORE INFO: • You will be working outdoors; shade levels vary by site • Activity level can be adjusted to your comfort and abilities—communicate with your Compost Manager • No prior composting experience needed; everyone is welcome • This location has bathrooms available • If you sign up, please show up; we rely on volunteers • We’ll follow up with details via email after sign up
