Cola
Cola performs songs from their new album C.O.L.A. in an intimate Soda Bar show (21+)
21+ event with valid ID at Soda Bar San Diego.
C.O.L.A. is sort of a self-titled album. It’s an acronym for Cost of Living Adjustment, a fitting conceptual framework for the band’s third record. The album considers, among other things, socialism versus hell, the risks of life, and the eerie sweet pangs of nostalgia. It is described by the band as an intricate, beautiful, and sometimes strange record — their most refined offering.
Cola is noted for tasteful minimalism and a deep appreciation for romantic, subtle, and deceptively intense music. C.O.L.A. is presented as the band’s most maximalist work to date, blending live drums with sampled loops on tracks like "Hedgesitting," which evokes a lush, deconstructed sound with references to Cure’s Disintegration and Sarah Records.
The band’s process is collaborative: members write separately then refine together in the studio. Tracks such as "Favoured Over the Ride" showcase a dusky, melancholy palette with dreamy guitar and clear melodic lines. One goal for C.O.L.A. was to let melody guide the lyrics, elevating vocal melodies alongside instrumental ones while keeping lyrics poetic and precise.
