Ballet d’Jèrri presents The Nutcracker

Ballet d'Jèrri presents L é Craque-nouaix (The Nutcracker) , choreographed by Katya Bourvis.
Inspired by the dark imagination of ETA Hoffmann's 1816 story, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, and paying loving homage to the countless re-imaginings of Marius Petipa's iconic 1892 ballet, this brand new interpretation draws a line between the past and the present. With Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's luminous score, a community corps de ballet, and the dancers of Jersey's National ballet, Bourvis weaves this beloved classic into a gift to be passed down through generations of the young (and the young at heart) of our island.
This is the story of Clara, suspended between familiar childhood and the unknown realms of adulthood. As her world transforms, imagination expands into something both beautiful and unsettling, before giving way to bittersweet understanding: growing up does not mean letting go of magic, and a fantasy outgrown can be passed along, rather than given up.
Bourvis' sensitive handling of complex emotional subject matter was first recognised by Jersey audiences in Flux , her 2025 creation about the history of the witch trials. Her unique ability to tell a story through movement brings clarity and nuance to this journey, balancing delicacy with tension, and allowing the familiar tale to unfold with new depth.
Elegant, atmospheric, whimsical and nostalgic, L é Craque-nouaix invites audiences to suspend the ir disbelief, step back into the wonder of childhood, and indulge the mselves, for one rare moment of the year, in refusing to completely leave it behind.
As part of our commitment to keeping dance accessible to all, a limited number of subsidised Pay-What-You-Can tickets are available from £5, subject to availability.
