**Smooth Operator** is a premier tribute to Sade, delivering soulful elegance, groove, and emotional depth. Founded by percussionist David (Tony) Young, the band features top R&B and jazz musicians. Led by vocalist Jessica “Jaye Nicole” Phillips, they recreate Sade’s timeless sound with authenticity, musicianship, and heartfelt, sophisticated live performance experience.

At the helm is founder David (Tony) Young, a dynamic and multi-talented percussionist known for his electrifying performances and contagious energy. Tony’s vibrant presence keeps audiences smiling and engaged from the first beat to the last. Having performed with legendary R&B acts such as Slave, Confunkshun, and Mark Woods of Lakeside, Tony brings unmatched passion and authenticity to the stage.
Leading the vocals is Jessica “Jaye Nicole” Phillips, a gifted singer/songwriter from Houston, TX, now based in Los Angeles. Classically trained on the alto saxophone since age 7, Jaye’s musical journey has taken her around the world, including a successful eight-week headlining tour in Japan. Her sultry voice and emotive delivery perfectly embody the spirit of Sade.
On bass and vocals is Bill “Capt. Swoop” Pittman, a seasoned performer who has worked with icons like Della Reese, Marilyn McCoo, and Ike Turner. Bill’s depth of musicality and rich experience anchor the band’s smooth, soulful sound.
Joining Tony on guitar is the versatile Tate Simms the bands musical director, whose résumé boasts tours with Christina Aguilera, Mary Wilson of The Supremes, and George Benson. Tate’s dynamic stage presence and musical prowess infuse Smooth Operator with powerful artistry and energy.
David (DJ) Jefferson, the band’s keyboardist, masterfully crafts the band’s seamless transitions and arrangements, bringing a polished, creative edge to every performance.
On drums, Eric Watson, founder of DBK Drumbasskeys, delivers a rock-solid groove. A respected drummer and community advocate, Eric’s passionate performances resonate deeply with audiences.
Adding smooth, sultry saxophone tones is Don “The One” Bell, whose extensive touring career shines through every captivating note.
Donald Bell, also known as Donnie B, a seasoned actor, DJ, singer-songwriter, arranger, and longtime frontman of the legendary funk band Slave, lends his soulful vocals and commanding presence to elevate the Smooth Operator experience even higher.
Chris Lea Sax/Flute, A San Diego native, multi-instrumentalist Chris comes from a deep musical lineage—his siblings Thomas and Elizabeth are Classically trained and an accomplished jazz flutist and saxophonist, Chris earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Jazz Performance from San Diego State University. His career as a performer and recording artist spa
