One City Day: Bioblitz
Citywide volunteer Bioblitz in Golden Gate Park to catalog species with California Academy of Sciences and community partners
About One City Day
Join us for One City Day — San Francisco’s first-ever citywide day of service! On Saturday, July 11th, San Franciscans across all 11 districts will come together to volunteer, connect, and show up for the city we love. Whether you’re gardening, cleaning up a neighborhood, packing supplies, or creating art, there’s the perfect project for all ages and abilities.
Join Cal Academy of Sciences and Reimaging San Francisco to catalog species in Golden Gate Park! Volunteers will meet at the District 1 kick-off location at 9:00am then head to Oak Woodland and Blue Heron Lake at 10:00am to get started.
About this project
Bioblitzes are gatherings of scientists, community scientists, land managers, and more, all working together to find and identify as many different species as possible. Bioblitzes are fun, family-friendly, and open to anyone, provide invaluable data for researchers, and highlight the incredible biodiversity in the Bay Area and throughout California.
All you need is your smartphone with the iNaturalist app installed, your curiosity, and your powers of observation to help catalog the natural wonders of our parks and open spaces.
What to Expect
Check-in for One City Day will begin at 9AM. Location details will be provided in June. When you get to your project site, your project host will welcome volunteers, go over the day’s activities, and provide a quick safety overview. Volunteers will work alongside neighbors, community organizations, and city partners for approximately two hours. There will be an opportunity to connect with fellow volunteers after your project wraps.
What to Wear/Bring
Dress in layers and wear closed-toe shoes. Bring sunscreen and a reusable water bottle. Additional supplies (gloves, tools, bags, etc.) will be provided by your project host unless otherwise notified.
