New Harvest Night
An evening of new storytelling and music at Mezrab featuring Rasha Hilwi, Marion Laville and Grainne Delaney
The storytellers you know and love, who often perform on our Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, will present to you new work at our New Harvest night. They have invested in longer stories, bringing you more experimental material. Some of these stories will turn into longer shows. All of them need you, a captive audience, to listen and enjoy the fresh fruits. This time, we are joined by Rasha, Marion and Grainne!
Marion Laville | Antigone
In the city of Thebes, no one can sleep. Behind closed doors, people whisper that something is rotten, that a strange smell is spreading through the streets and into their homes. The guards try to stay awake around the fire, playing cards and telling jokes while the king wonders if he made the right decision. And somewhere in the darkness stands Antigone, alone on the hill above the city. Tonight, she will defy the king to do what she believes is right. Inspired by the ancient Greek tragedy written by Sophocles over two thousand years ago, this storytelling and music performance retells the story of Antigone.
Rasha Hilwi | Guidelines to a Happy Motherhood
A deeply personal storytelling performance about motherhood and mental health in dark times, following a Palestinian mother’s journey through grief, love, pain, and joy as she raises her children in a foreign city far from home. Rasha Hilwi is a Palestinian writer, journalist, editor, and storyteller from Akka based in Amsterdam. During New Harvest, she will present this work-in-progress performance, directed by Raffi Feghali.
Grainne Delaney | Closing The Circle
What makes a Legend? the dreams of children, or the words of prophets? Who makes a Hero? The enemy at the door, or those who are left behind? Closing The Circle: An Ancient Irish Myth, The Hound of Ulster, retold through the hearts and voices of women, with and without power.
We think we are bound by duty, care, loyalty, but they are simply roles we have been given by history.
What really moves us and where/when shall we make our choice?
