Monster
Theatre
A new 1 hr solo spoken word autobiographical show by Naomi Wood (Gobbess) about "monsters", ocean myth, fear and identity. It looks at what we consider to be "monstrous" especally in women. It explores a fear of the sea and the tempestuous nature of performance equating audiences with the ocean. It looks at the nature of being "seen" and being exposed. It is about learning to embrace both togetherness and aloneness, looking at the ways we hide away and seek visibility. Ultimately, it is about reconnecting with the wild and with risk, externally and within. It involves the mythology of the sea - mermaids, selkies, and the sea witch and is told through original spoken word and storytelling with an original music score. It includes hilarious fish facts, is personal, moving and champions seeing the best in both people and pond life. For anyone who has ever been told there are "plenty more fish in the sea" or felt far from the shore. TW - mention of violence, abuse, disordered eating and alcohol related death. Ages 12+
