Lino Printing
Three-hour beginner lino printing workshop with tutor Hazel Boland — materials provided, take home a hand-printed series
Discover the bold, tactile world of lino printing in this beginner's workshop, introducing the traditional relief printing process. You'll begin by exploring how to translate imagery into striking black-and-white compositions, learning to identify positive and negative space to create contrast and visual impact. Using a variety of lino cutting tools, Hazel will guide you through techniques such as gouging, cross-hatching, and texturing to add depth and detail to your design.
Once your lino block is carved, you'll learn how to ink your plate using a roller (brayer) and experiment with colour layering and pressure to achieve clean, expressive prints. Your final artwork will be printed onto linen and plywood, giving you a small series of original, hand-printed pieces to take home perfect for framing or gifting.
All materials are provided, but feel free to bring your own imagery for inspiration. Please wear an apron or old shirt, things might get inky!
