Code&Share[66]: What does it mean to be safe today?

Ghost Agency works within the context of gender violence and broader systemic crises in Mexico by examining the opaque systems used to monitor and control citizens, particularly those voicing dissent. In response, the practice calls for new counter-infrastructures capable of deviating from the “black box” logics of technological efficiency, complexity, and acceleration -systems that often operate beyond legal or social accountability.

To address the broader lack of literacy and agency in the digital age, this workshop examines how “safe-ty” (“safe to you”) technologies might be designed more responsively -particularly for women and activists navigating digital complexity without adequate strategies for protection, but also for civilians in Denmark and across diverse global contexts.

This workshop will introduce the practice and design approaches of Ghost Agency, as well as the methods, principles, and concrete tools developed collaboratively through its work with communities, NGOs, and cybersecurity experts. Participants will be encouraged to collectively identify additional risks and potential solutions that can expand both the notion and operability of safety technologies designed by and for civilians across different contexts.
