Author Annalee Newitz reads from Automatic Noodle and discusses robots, identity and tech with a Q&A at San Lorenzo Library
Join us in conversation about robots, technology, queer identities, bodies, and stories as we host bestselling author Annalee Newitz! Annalee will read a short excerpt from their newest novel, Automatic Noodle, followed by guided conversation with library staff and Q&A from the audience. We will have free copies of Automatic Noodle for attendees, while supplies last, and the opportunity to have your copy signed by the author.
Annalee Newitz is a science journalist who also writes science fiction. They are the author of several books, including Automatic Noodle, an instant USA Today bestseller; The Terraformers, which was nominated for the Nebula Award; and Four Lost Cities: A Secret History of the Urban Age. They have a monthly column in New Scientist magazine and are a member of the Flaming Hydra collective.
Automatic Noodle is a cozy sci-fi novella set in post-war San Francisco. It follows four abandoned robot food-service workers who illegally take over their ghost kitchen and open a successful hand-pulled noodle shop. When a mysterious culprit begins review-bombing them, the robots must team up to save their business. The novella explores themes of community, identity, and the gig economy, as the robots navigate the highs and lows of entrepreneurship.
