Internalities

Thrown Studioโs Second Annual Resident Exhibition
โAn artist is a man who digests his own subjective impressions and knows how to find a general objective meaning in them, and how to express them in a convincing form.โ
-Maxim Gorky
This is a three-part recipe that taught me how to communicate through my art. My goal for this exhibition is to encourage my residents to really dissect and analyze why they are creating and for whom. I have come to believe that through this process one can elevate their work onto a higher platform. Care and attention works hand-in-hand with dreaming and passion to build a strong base for an artist to stand on.
The word internalities comes from its root โinternal;โ for the purposes of this exhibition, it describes things that are hidden away inside of your body that you may find too vulnerable to share with the world. My intent is not for my residents to divulge all of these highly personal things, but rather express their essence in a meaningful manner. To sway, inspire, or connect their audience. When we are able to achieve this as artists, we become something more than creatives; we become inspirations to others. This begins a butterfly effect of itsโ own, spiraling and influencing everything in its path. This is the purpose of art.
