Sheep!
Theatre - Theatre Programme · Jenni Nikinmaa
A play about sheep, flocks and belonging, told by a sheep who doesn't know how to belong after she was sexually assaulted. To find her way back into the herd, she weaves an off-beat comedic tale of sheep who are born, loved, and eaten – asking for it, having such cute lambs - and go to space in search of the lost connection.
Sheep! is a dark and hilarious exploration of the hard feelings one goes through after a sexual assault, told through the extended metaphor of sheep. A powerful, weird and wonderful monologue that invites you into joy and resilience, into the flock of soft, fluffy and vulnerable sheep.
Written and performed by Jenni Nikinmaa, a Finn living on a remote Irish island whose artistic works make hard-hitting points so gently it's like being hugged by a sheep. Directed by Sarah O'Toole, sound design Jack Cawley, lighting design Órla Kelly-Smith. Dramaturgs Michael West & Hugh Farrell.
