One-Day Cognitive Workshop | 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Key performance indicators (KPIs) Elucidation of (a) human intelligence, (b) artificial intelligence (AI), and (c) the difference between them. Improved efficacy developing AI systems insofar as program success correlates with the clarification of the human phenomena specified for encoding.

Task

Questions about AI — regardless its iteration, current or envisaged — are not principally about the technology. More fundamentally, they express a primordial impulse to understand the essential meaning of human intelligence within the context of the human "to be." Although the shortage correlated with the motivation is a human one, or, more precisely, existential or ontological, its effects are not isolated in the human person. They also risk biasing AI development.

Confusion about the essential meaning of human intelligence risks unconsciously swaying efforts to encode its basic constituents into suboptimal trajectories.

The workshoip lays out the case to supersede the "artificial intelligence" sobriquet with " dark intelligence " to mitigate apparent presuppositions belying the technology and clarify the way AI is thought. The workshop: Reduces AI to its basic statistical processes. Exhibits the essential meaning of human intelligence — which is inceptually affiliated with "light" (φῶς), "visibility" (φαίνω), and "saying" (φήμη) — over against core AI processes.

Discerns the interpretive constraints associated with thinking AI and a hypothesized "singularity" (AI Boltzmann Brain) as allowed by the statistical formulation of entropy ( S = k ln W ). Posits the operational effects of supplanting the "AI" moniker.

Method

Best teaching practices are employed. They include discovery sessions, learning exercises, knowledge checks, and a rigorous reduction of human phenomena and core concepts. The vector subscribes to the teaching methods ordained by the US Army Common Faculty Development - Instructor Course (CFD-IC) . The CFD-IC is an integration of the Army Basic Instructor Course (ABIC), Small Group Instructor Training Course (SGITC), and Faculty Development Program Phase 1 (FDP1).

It is the " gold standard " of adult learning. Dr. Trujillo received his 108-hour CFD-IC certification in 2019.
