Youth Hub: Bars & Beats
Culture, Arts & Entertainment · Teens (13-17)
In this workshop led by Coach Desiree McKenzie, participants will explore the global and local roots of spoken word, specifically examining how rap music utilizes poetic tools like rhythm, metaphor, and storytelling.
The goal of this program is to help participants recognize rap as poetry in motion, examine lyrics analytically, and create original spoken word pieces inspired by musical flow and technique.
No registration is required. Drop-in only.
This program is part of Youth Hub service. Youth Hubs are a welcoming place for teens after school and in the summer, where helpful staff are always available. Free, nutritious snacks are offered daily. Drop by a branch with a Youth Hub or call the branch to find out more.
