
xTool Hobbyist Laser Cutter Certification
Hands-on xTool laser cutter certification at the makerspace: safety, setup, file prep and supervised practice; certification granted
This certification class provides an introduction to EPL's xTool Hobbyist Laser Cutter, designed for beginners and intermediate users who want to master laser cutting. Participants will learn safety protocols and machine setup and operation, enabling independent use of the xTool in the Makerspace upon successful completion.
• Understand Laser Cutting Technology: overview of laser cutting principles and how the xTool works. • Safety Protocols: important safety measures, personal protective equipment (PPE), and emergency procedures. • Machine Setup and Calibration: setting up the xTool including software and hardware configurations. • Material Selection: types of materials that can be cut or engraved and ideal settings. • Laser Cutting and Engraving Techniques: hands-on training adjusting speed, power, and precision. • Basic Troubleshooting: identifying and resolving common issues. • File Preparation: introduction to xTool Creative Space and preparing vector and raster files. • Hands-On Practice: practice using pre-designed templates and user-created designs with personalized instructor guidance.
A certification will be added to your library account after the class is completed (library card required) making you eligible for independent use of the xTool in the Makerspace. Some computer experience is necessary. This class is for ages 13 and up.
