Hands-on introduction to interactive web maps with Leaflet for beginners, taught by a UBC graduate student

This workshop provides a gentle introduction to web mapping with Leaflet, a free and open-source code library. No prior experience necessary! Join us to learn how to dynamically and interactively visualize geospatial data with maps that can be shared to others via a link.

Note: This workshop is Part 2 of the series Intro to Webmapping, which explores common tools and platforms for making web maps. Part 1 focuses on free and straightforward online platforms for web mapping. Participants are encouraged to register for both sessions.

Hands on with Leaflet.js • Intro to using your source code editor • Examine the map “boilerplate” • Configure the load location and zoom level • Change base layer • Add building data • Examine building data attributes • Configure a popup

This workshop is taught by a graduate student in Geography with expertise in GIS and cartographic methods. Workshop Link: https://ubc-library-rc.github.io/gis-intro-leaflet/

Things to do before arriving: This workshop will require the use of an internet browser and source code editor. We recommend downloading Mozilla Firefox for your browser, and VS Code as a source code editor. If you have questions, concerns, or accessibility needs, please email [email protected]
