Experimental six-voice drone choir NYX perform ethereal choral works blending sacred music, opera and electronics
The half-dozen vocalists of experimental drone choir NYX build exquisitely emotive songs that sound like they have always existed, or perhaps always will. Led by performer-composers Sian O’Gorman and Philippa Neels, the collective draw from sacred music, opera, sound design and experimental electronics to challenge preconceptions about what a traditional women’s choir looks like. From the simplest of refrains – a lone piano line or low murmur of synths – their songs build into towers of ethereal sound. Somatic movements complement these transcendent, muscular choral works.
