Open Gate Presents: Memory is (Not) a Box
Three artists present immersive solo sets exploring sound, memory and absence in an intimate experimental evening
Memory Is (Not) A Box is an evening of experiments with sound and memory by three artists who have been pursuing the meanings, ambiences, and textures of the act of remembering and forgetting. It features three solo sets by Patrick Shiroishi, Dustin Wong, and Umi Hsu.
How do we hear beyond the wind of chatters? What are the harmonic overtones of tremors? What is the temporal pattern of grief? What is the decay of a sound unforgotten?
You are invited to explore these rich timbres of memory and their powerful presence / absence. The audience is encouraged to bring a yoga mat to sit or lie down during the performances.
Umi Hsu will present Sleepless Night (2025), a new work that traverses the space that language occupies between the unforgettable and the forgotten in the diaspora.
Patrick Shiroishi will perform a solo set featuring songs from his most recent albums.
Dustin Wong will perform songs from his 2025 album Gloria.
