The singer-songwriter explains, “Mr Overwhelm as a character is the manifestation of the anxiety, fear and hopelessness that comes with experiencing the world in its current dystopic state. The song explores both the realisation that the world full of promise and justice that you’re sold as a kid doesn’t exist, and the natural desire to retreat into fantasy as a result of that. It delves into anemoia - a deep nostalgia or a yearning for a time or place that never existed.”
