Madfabulous (12A)
Screening of Madfabulous (12A), a flamboyant queer-tinged historical satire led by Callum Scott Howells
When the flamboyant Henry Paget arrives in 1890’s North Wales to claim his aristocratic inheritance, his theatrical flair and defiant eccentricities send shockwaves through the upper-class elite, much to the amusement of the local townspeople. Alongside his spirited cousin, Lily, and loyal butler, Gelert, Henry tries to carve out his own identity as the Fifth Marquess, navigating suffocating traditions, scheming relatives, and the long shadow cast by his estranged father.
Inspired by a true story, this riotous, uncompromising celebration of otherness is led by Callum Scott Howells and a supporting cast including Rupert Everett, Ruby Stokes, Siobhán McSweeney, Louis Hynes, Louise Brealey, Tom Rhys Harries and Paul Rhys.
Part of Decline in Style | From Victorian extravagance to contemporary satire, these films explore aristocracy as a form of performance. Characters cling to visibility through costume, spectacle, filmmaking and social ritual, revealing class not as a stable identity but as an ongoing act of self-invention. What remains when status survives only as theatre?
