LEARN: Rewoven: Printed by Nature
Learn · Activities · 18+
part of Rewoven — a season of textile repair and reuse There's something quietly astonishing about laying a dried flower or a handful of leaves onto silk, rolling it tight, steaming it, and waiting. You can't quite predict what you'll get. That's rather the point. In this workshop, Pam Martin of Somerset Stitch — who has spent years exploring the rich, unpredictable world of natural dyeing — will guide you through the art of eco printing on silk. Using dried natural materials, you'll learn how to prepare your fabric, arrange your chosen botanicals, and use steam to transfer their colour and form onto the cloth. The results are one of a kind, shaped as much by the materials as by you. It's a slow, meditative process, and all the more satisfying for it. You'll leave with a piece of printed silk and a new appreciation for what nature can do when you give it a little heat and time. All materials provided. No experience necessary.
