Joel Ostrom
Live country set by Canadian guitarist Joel Ostrom with dinner and doors from 17:30 at Strathmore Station
Joel Ostrom is a born and raised fourth generation Albertan. The son of ranchers and rodeo stars, Joel grew up on a farm just outside of Calgary. Though he initially followed in the footsteps of his parents and extended family by competing in the sport of rodeo, it wasnât until he was in high school that he discovered his passion for music.
Growing up listening to country music on his momâs collection of cassette tapes, he knew the kind of music he wanted to learn. After acquiring his first electric guitar, a Fender Telecaster, he immediately became hooked on the blistering fast country licks of artists like Vince Gill, Brent Mason and Brad Paisley. After cutting his teeth on live music performance on the worship team of his church, he soon began gaining attention from musicians in Calgaryâs country music scene and started working as a freelance guitarist for various country acts around Alberta.
After years of performing as a backup guitarist for others, Joel decided to take his musical career to the next level by fronting his own band called Tin Star, backed up by other Alberta musicians he had befriended during his tenure as a hired gun guitarist. By starting his own musical act, Joel was free to perform the kind of country music he loved listening to growing up â as well as pepper in as much guitar playing as he wanted.
After the success of his own musical group, Joel again decided to advance his career as a recording artist by releasing and performing his own original music â featuring his unique blend of country style guitar playing with a modern sound that pays homage to the classic artists that have inspired him since his youth.
