Delcy Morelos
Large outdoor multisensory installation by Delcy Morelos in the Barbican Sculpture Court inviting visitors to walk inside a 24m soil and spice environment
A new commission takes root in our Sculpture Court, as Delcy Morelos explores our relationship to the planet with a site-specific installation made of soil, clay and fragrant spices.
Colombian artist Delcy Morelos creates multisensory, immersive environments, inviting us to connect with soil, the material which sustains all life. For her Barbican commission, she has designed her most ambitious outdoor work to date, with a monumental circumference of 24 metres. We invite you to walk inside the artwork and experience its shifting light and fragrant smells.
The organic materiality of Morelos' installation, inspired by Andean and Amazonian architecture, sits in dialogue with the iconic concrete of the Barbican. The commission marks a return of artwork in our Sculpture Court for the first time in 10 years.
