'COWARD' by @lukasdhont is the opening film of Film Fest Gent 2026! 💥

On Wednesday 7 October, Dhont will kick off Film Fest Gent for the third time. His new film follows young soldiers trying to keep up their morale in the trenches during the First World War.

It's 1917 when Pierre (Emmanuel Macchia) meets Francis (Valentin Campagne), who decides to lift the spirits of his comrades by putting together a theatre show. While the violence continues, both men try to find ways to escape the brutality of war, even if only for a moment.

'COWARD' van Lukas Dhont is de officiële openingsfilm van Film Fest Gent 2026! 💥

Op woensdag 7 oktober geeft Dhont voor de derde keer het startschot van het internationale filmfestival. Zijn nieuwste film volgt jonge soldaten die tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog hun moraal proberen hooghouden in de loopgraven.

In 1917 ontmoet Pierre (Emmanuel Macchia) Francis (Valentin Campagne), die met geïmproviseerde shows de moraal van de troepen probeert hoog te houden. Terwijl de oorlog onverbiddelijk voortwoedt, proberen ze allebei aan de realiteit te ontsnappen, al is het maar voor even.
