Colin Self // Surgery Season

Welcoming special artists Colin Self & Surgery Season to Detroit for the last stop on their Midwest tour!! A little beautiful, a little antagonistic, these two acts just might open your mind to new, queer possibilities in facing a cruel world with tenderness and intrepidity.

Colin Self is an artist, composer, and puppeteer based in New York and Berlin. They create music, performances, and new systems for interfacing with the human spirit, across a spectrum between the living and deceased. As many of their practices revolve around the temporary assembly of communities, their work envelops collaborative and dialogical experiments into play. Self has been running XOIR since 2013, an alternative modality of group singing, and co-founded a performance school in 2023 with their collaborator Monica Mirabile.

Surgery Season is the experimental pop project of trans artist Wolf Black and veteran Portland diy drummer Jamie Brito, aka Papi Jalapeño. Together, Wolf and Jamie’s musical chemistry is palpable. Blending elements of club music, emo rock, and shoegaze, Surgery Season disregards genre conventions to create unique sonic worlds. Exploding onto the scene in late 2023 with a renegade debut performance, they perform regularly in Portland, and recently released their debut single, “Medford,” to local acclaim.
