Brooke Stewart

The interdisciplinary work of Boston-based Brooke Stewart (b. 1994 in Topsfield, MA) explores the intersection of art and sports, with a particular focus on marginalized histories and figures in the United States. From iconic parquet floors to neighborhood courts, Stewart replicates, fragments, and reassembles sports architecture. By translating these sites, Stewart invites visitors to consider courts not only as sites of competition, but also as spaces shaped by access, exclusion, teamwork, and aspiration across generations of fans and players.

For the ICA, Stewart will create a new installation on the museum’s Sandra and Gerald Fineberg Art Wall. This richly textured installation will highlight the material and vernacular history of Boston’s sports courts: exploring their past, reflecting on our present, and envisioning a future of teamwork, equity, and fair play.
