Baka Beyond - Sing the World Awake
Music
Baka Beyond return to the Acorn with a new album, Sing the World Awake, and a new lease of life. For over 30 years they have been blending African and Celtic music with a hint of psychedelia to create a unique form of dance music. Inspired by the Baka Pygmies of Cameroon, founders Martin Cradick and Su Hart were deeply moved by the Baka's music during their first visit to the Cameroon rainforest, prompting them to share this experience with the world. The Baka believe that there are "spirits" who live in the forest who like to dance with people. They see the purpose of music to encourage these spirits to come and dance, and make problems disappear. To create this magic on stage Martin and Su are joined by Ayodele Scott (Sierra Leone) and Kibisingo Douglas (Congo), bringing the authentic African groove, with Clyde Kramer on drums and fiddler Ben Moneypenny bringing the Celtic flair. Ellie Jamison weaving her voice with Su's over Martin's intricate guitar to complete the spell. Leave your troubles behind and dance!
