ARTIE & THE DO GOODS
Chicago-based Artie Do Good blends jazz, hip hop and electronic dance music around a labor movement–inspired Socialist Dance Party
**Artie Do Good** is the alter-ego of trombonist, composer, and producer Chris Arthur Misch-Bloxdorf. He is a Chicago-based multi-instrumentalist, producer, and educator whose unique musical identity is a confluence of an imaginative array of art and culture. Combining his love of jazz, hip hop, and electronic music with some of Chicago's finest musicians, he performs as Artie and the Do Goods.
Weaving together a project that attempts to convey a message of solidarity, his most recent release, entitled Socialist Dance Party, is an album conceptually born out of recontextualizing labor movement songs and ideas from the early to mid-20th century into a modern aesthetic rooted in dance music. The initial spark of inspiration came from learning about labor movements and the parallels that felt relevant today, specifically focusing on the United States organizations and individuals that helped shape many of the benefits we have as workers today. Many of the influences come from the Chicago-founded organization, the IWW.
