Summer Tree Identification and Guided Walking Tour
Outdoor guided tour and beginner tree identification class led by Openlands Forestry Coordinator Leslie Leon-Aguilar
Step outside the ordinary: Join us to discover the incredible trees that sustain your life!
Learning to identify trees will connect you to nature in your local landscape and deepen your understanding of their diverse role. Leslie Leon-Aguilar, Forestry Coordinator at Openlands, will lead an introductory tree identification class starting at Harold Washington Library Center and continues as a guided walking tour to observe and identify various tree species in the South Loop. Participants will learn to identify trees by leaves, twigs, bark, and other characteristics.
Leslie supports Openlands as a Forestry Coordinator, where she helps plan tree plantings within priority areas in Chicago and surrounding suburbs. With 3 years of experience in Urban Forestry and a bachelor's degree in environmental studies from Indiana University Bloomington, she brings expertise in arboriculture and community engagement. Passionate about environmental stewardship, Leslie is known for encouraging others to view themselves as part of nature.
This event takes place outdoors. We will meet on the 4th floor and then go outside together. In case of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled.
For adults, teens and kids 10 and up.
