The shoegaze duo TELEPHONIST, consisting of producers and multi-instrumentalists Dennis Mielke and Oskar Middelhauve, got together in Dortmund in 2023. Telephonist wants to break new ground in the scene and is trying to fill a gap in the German music landscape by using German lyrics instead of English, unlike most shoegaze/alternative rock bands.

With their debut EP “Gegen die Wand” (Against the Wall), released on December 5 by the independent label Porcupine Records, the two devote themselves to a melancholic, dark sound that finds its inspiration in bands such as DIIV, Duster, Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, and Slowdive, combining these influences with German lyrics. The EP comprises five songs and deals with frustration with people, structures, and life in a city, which are the central themes of “Gegen die Wand.”

EFKA MOTT is a Berlin based Liedermacher influenced by Arthur Russel, Lou Reed, Jessica Pratt and traces of German Post-Punk and Krautrock. Whether snippets of conversations between friends and strangers, fragments of memories and longings, bad experiences with drugs, or the struggle to become what you already are – Efka Mott sings about these topics in a rustic style with their guitar and harmonica, accompanied by Berlin-based artist Franna on cello with experimental soundscapes.
