Wise Fruit 12.0: Ocean Ma
Interdisciplinary evening of dance and live music exploring water, memory and stewardship, with fundraising for environmental justice.
After a three-year hiatus, Wise Fruit NYC returns for its 12th edition with Ocean Ma, an interdisciplinary evening of dance, live music, collaboration, and community.
Hosted by interdisciplinary artist Marguerite Hemmings and curated and produced by artist Brinda Guha, Ocean Ma explores water as mother: forgiving and unforgiving, cleansing and dangerous, nourishing and accountable.
Centered on the feminine divine: not as gender, but as a force, Ocean Ma invites audiences to reflect on memory, stewardship, ancestry, transformation, and our responsibility to one another and to the natural world.
Throughout the evening, audiences will experience performances by acclaimed choreographers, live musicians, and interdisciplinary artists, alongside the beloved Wise Fruit Live Collaboration Series, where dancers and musicians create original work together in just one rehearsal before taking the stage.
This year’s guiding reflection is:
What we take disappears.
What we ignore persists.
What we love changes us.
As in previous editions, Wise Fruit serves as both a performance experience and fundraiser, with net proceeds benefiting a women-led organization advancing water stewardship and environmental justice. Headlining choreographers and performers to be announced soon.
