Step right up to witness the power of Disability, a power the world tries to take from us. Cirque du Handicap is a show celebrating the power within Disability. It features exaggerated circus acts, theatre and spoken word poetry to represent the life of Disability activist, writer and actor Simi Roach. The performance takes us through Simi’s life story to demonstrate how the world tries to diminish the natural power within Disabled people. Audience interaction included.    Simi Roach is a Jamaican-British actor, writer, and Disability justice activist. Their work explores Disability culture, history, and innovative Disabled representation through both written fiction and live performance. Simi has also performed as a spoken word poet, public speaker and educator, and is both an experienced stage and screen actor.  Step right up and spread the word! The circus is about to come to town.  Starring: Simi Roach and Rudzani Moleya  Set and prop designers: Luca Apostolos and Varvara Ivanova Composer: DJ OTDelta Promotional art: Theo Angel “It was such a rich and powerful piece. A true expression of identity and, at its core, a celebration and ode to life itself. I laughed, I teared up, and I really enjoyed getting to know more of who Simi was through the work. I found the choice of a circus setting especially interesting. There is such a striking contrast between the vulnerability and raw honesty of their voice on race, disability, and life events, set within something almost comical and entertaining.”    “I wish I could eloquently illustrate how great Simi’s performance was. It was bold, bare, brave, black, commanding, courageous, funny, heartwarming, heartbreaking, eye-opening, intensely engaging, educational, and most importantly, connecting! They’ve got real star power. It was an honor to be in the audience. I’m looking forward to seeing what else they have under their Ringmaster's hat.”  16+
