Geology Section Meeting

The Geology Section of the Société Jersiaise aims to promote an improved understanding of geology, in particular of the rocks that make up the island of Jersey. The Section members carry out research and assist external experts to carry out research on the geology of the island. Members also prepare and maintain guides on the geology of the Island, for use by the general public. The Section also has a library and maintains a reference collection of local rock samples.

The Section normally meets twice a month, on the second and fourth Wednesday evenings, with occasional additional special meetings, to allow visiting experts to talk to the Section. The meetings consist of presentations on a wide variety of geological topics, ranging from general geological topics to presentations on local rock types or to report on research findings. During the summer months (and occasionally during the winter), there are field trips to locations of particular geological interest.

Section membership is broad, ranging from working and retired professional geologists to members who have an interest in geology and want to increase their knowledge of the subject. It is not necessary to have any formal qualifications to be a member of the Geology Section, just an interest in geology. The Geology Section is a friendly group and new members are always made very welcome, as are members of other Société Sections that wish to attend our meetings.
