BACK TO SCHOOL: Rushmore
Screening of Wes Anderson's Rushmore with snacks allowed; parental guidance suggested
While everyone gets back on the bus we have a selection of stories about school for you this month with a few cinematic companions.
First up is "Rushmore", the second film from the screenwriting team of Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson that really put Anderson's directorial style on the map after 1996's smaller (but fantastic) "Bottle Rocket". This is the story of Max Fischer, a fifteen year old full of ambition, and himself, who loves everything about going to Rushmore Academy except being good at his classwork. His problems snowball when he develops a severe crush on a teacher...and so does someone else. Anderson sought out Bill Murray for the role of Herman Blume who immediately became a mainstay in the director's troupe to this day.
And if you didn't already know, the soundtrack album was an instant classic. The man loves his Kinks.
Snacks and beverages permitted. Parental guidance suggested.
