Asymmetric Foraging Basket
Adult Workshop
Fri 28 & Sat 29 Aug | 10.00am – 5.00pm | £125
On this two-day course you will weave with home grown willow varieties to create an asymmetric foraging basket. This workshop is designed for anyone eager to move beyond round basketry and explore new weaving techniques. Previous weaving experience is highly recommended.
You will master techniques such as weaving and spacing oval bases, selecting rods for stakes and weavers, staking up, pull down wale, French rand, and the 5-behind-2 border. Learn how to perfect the finishing touches on your basket by attaching a driftwood handle and applying professional trimming and tidying techniques.
Basketmaking is a very physical activity and therefore requires reasonable stamina and hand strength. You will also have the use of very sharp tools throughout the day's work. Please bring a notebook and pen and wear closed-toe shoes.
Participants are encouraged to collect their own driftwood handle to make the basket more personal, however the tutor will also have some handles available to choose from.
