About: Jonah Phillips is a London-based drummer, bandleader and arranger. With a background in fine art and film, Jonah is a recent graduate of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. His work is influenced by the jazz tradition, fused with his interest in alternative songwriting, indie, post-punk, folk and electronica. Jonah works with a range of ensembles and has performed at renowned venues and festivals across the country, including Barbican Hall, The Vortex, Pizza Express Soho, Love Supreme, EFG London, Cheltenham and Manchester Jazz Festivals.
Jonah debuts a new quartet that bridges a unique Ornette-style lineup with heavy, riff-driven grooves. Through a series of new arrangements, the ensemble pays homage to the influences of Charles Mingus, whilst drawing contemporary inspiration of Paul Motian and Bill Frisell to David Bowie and The Smile.
