Forest Bathing + Introduction to Mindfulness in Nature Session
Two-hour guided forest bathing session on the Sand Dunes to slow down, engage the senses and restore calm
Step into nature, slow down and engage the senses. A gentle guided experience each season, intended to cultivate a sense of calm.
Join me for a Forest Bathing / Introduction to Mindfulness in Nature session at the Sand Dunes. This is more than just a walk, it is an invitation to slow down, breathe and reconnect with nature in this special place. It will involve being guided through gentle mindful activities to awaken the senses and enhance wellbeing. No prior experience is necessary.
About Forest Bathing
Forest Bathing (shinrin-yoku) is a practice developed in Japan in the 1980s. It is about spending quiet, unhurried time in a forest or natural setting. By engaging our senses here, we create an opportunity to cultivate a sense of calm, and restore our connection with both our environment and the self.
The essence of Forest Bathing goes back a lot further than the 1980s; for thousands of years human cultures have had their own versions of forest bathing with sensorial practices for soaking in the healing potential of nature, so we could say it is a modern interpretation of age-old wisdom.
Potential Benefits of Forest Bathing
There is a growing body of scientific research that indicates that forest bathing can: improve concentration and memory, improve energy, reduce blood pressure, lower stress, improve cardiovascular and metabolic health, boost immune system.
About the session
A two-hour session will help us unplug from technology, and have a break from the noise of modern day lives. We will be walking in silence while connecting with our breath, and it will involve being guided through a sequence of "invitations" to awaken each of the senses in the natural setting of the sand dunes. We will finish with a 'treelaxation', which is a guided relaxation under the tree canopy. There will be opportunities to share our experience with the group throughout, although this is purely optional.
About the location
The sand dunes (Les Blanches Banques) are a Site of Special Interest (SSI), on the west coast of Jersey. They are marram grass-covered seaside dunes, with scrubby wooded valleys. The wooded area has a diversity of species and is well established; the dunes also have a beautiful variety of flora and fauna, and offer views and sounds of the Atlantic Ocean.
