· Anatomy and physiology of the bowel · Definitions and causes of bowel dysfunction · How to assess bowel dysfunction (including DRE) · The role of interventions to improve and maintain bowel function (including DRF and DRS) · Explanation of the role of pharmacology and prescribing to manage bowel dysfunction · Explanation how to identify and treat bowel care emergencies and complications · Explanation of the roles of consent, confidentiality, chaperoning, privacy and dignity, communication, documentation in relation to managing bowel dysfunction · Explanation of the importance of risk assessment in relation to managing bowel dysfunction · Explanation of the role of infection prevention control and care of the environment when undertaking bowel assessment / management · Explanation of the role of health care assistants in relation to bowel management · Demonstration of Digital Rectal Examination (DRE), Digital Removal of Faeces (DRF), Digital Rectal Stimulation (DRS)
